Retro Revived

Part of the charm of yesterday's Real Wedding came from its touches of retro-inspiration - the scooter, Chapel of Love photo booth, black and white photos. Retro-style weddings are a big wedding trend at the moment - all things vintage, nostalgic and whimsical. Of course, the key is to keep it retro-chic, but we love this style for the opportunity to bring in pieces of the past (family heirlooms fit right in) and your personal creativity.

Some retro-chic ideas for the day:
  • Use blackboards for a welcome note to your guests, the seating plan or menu.
  • Be inspired by retro fabrics for tablecloths or runners and even the bridesmaids' dresses.
  • Arrange flowers in small posies set in a collection of mixed vessels, from china to silver to glass.
  • Choose a fitting venue - your parents' backyard, a 50's hotel, an old club (what about the Rand Club?)
  • Set up a candy bar with treats from back in the day.
  • Wear a vintage dress or a headpiece instead of a veil.
  • Pick a playlist inspired by the good old days.
  • Retro colour schemes are gorgeous - aqua and pink, raspberry and turquoise, orange or yellow and white.
And don't forget the vintage tradition of the bridal couple send-off - even changing into a going-away outfit - it's the perfect end to your retro-style wedding!
